Welcome to Canlaon City. . .

City of Canlaon, named after the famous volcano Mount Kanlaon in Negros Island, is bounded on the North by San Carlos City in the Province of Negros Occidental, on the East by Vallehermoso in the Province of Negros Oriental, on the West by the Municipality of La Castellana and Pontevedra both of the Province of Negros Occidental and on the south by the Municipality of Guihulngan in the Province of Negros Oriental.

The City has total Land area 16,662 hectares and a population count of 46,548 in the 2000 census, a growth rate of 2.0 percent since 1995. The total number of households is 9,302 or an average of 5.4 persons per household. Brgy. Mabigo and Brgy. Panubigan are the most populous of the Barangays accounting for 19.5 and 11.7 percent of the total, respectively.

There are Twelve (12) Barangays comprising City of Canlaon, namely: Bayog, Binalbagan, Bucalan, Budlasan, Linothangan, Lumapao, Mabigo, Malaiba, Masulog, Aquino, Panubigan, Pula.

Supposedly the thirteenth, Brgy. Biak-na-Bato is contested by the City of La Carlota of Negros Occidental. The City claim is based on Cad 782-D which shows that the barangay is under its jurisdication. There were two summits held at the City of Canlaon back in 70's attended by the Governors Negros Oriental and Negros Occidental to that matter. Unfortunately, the issue has remained unresolved up to this time.

The City of Canlaon lies 9.5 kilometers from the foot of Mt. Kanlaon and is 38 kilometers from San Carlos City, 102 kilometers from Bacolod City, the Capital of Negros Occidental, 36 kilometers from La Castellana (taking the cross-island country road traversing Negros Oriental and Negros Occidental), 50 kilometers from the Municipality of Guihulngan, 20 kilometers from the Municipality of Vallehermoso 166 kilometers from the City of Dumaguete, the Capital of Negros Oriental.
